Karbala Moalla Ziyarat Tour Updated on: [Jun 05]

During Ashara Mubaraka 1431H, Aqa Moula (TUS) did zikr and Dua Mubarak about the importance of Karbala Moalla ziyarat and mumineen should go for ziyarat. Keeping this Zikr in mind. We decided that the first project of 1431H should be organizing of Karbala Moalla Ziyarat tour.

When we began this project, we were targetting about 40 mumineen, but we received an overwhelming response and in the end we had a total of 129 mumineen who travelled through Shababul Eidiz Zahabi.

Throughout the organizing many issues arised, one of the most important was whether we should have a group of 129 or split this group. Our group leaders Moiz Asgerally and Abbas Sh Fazlehussain gave us himat and we stuck to having one group.

The group departed on 7th April and returned on the 19th of April, staying a total of 10 days in Karbala Moalla and Najaf e Ashraf.

Before the group left, we had organized a Sabak near Janab Amil Saheb which also included a powerpoint presentation. We sincerely thank Janab Amil Saheb for his time and his wonderful sabak, which was very important for the mumineen.

Shababul Eidiz Zahabi also gave all adults a bag when we were issuing the tickets.

As soon as the group left on the 7th of April, we received a call that kept us awake for most of the night. The call informed us that all airports in iraq were closed due to a terrorist threat and it could take as long as 96 hours or more before it opened. We immediately took out Nazrul Maqam (A.S) and came and discussed with Janab Amil Saheb. Janab Amil Saheb spoke to the head of Faiz E Husaini Dubai, Sh Khuzaima Bhai spoke to Janab Kinana Bhai Saheb, and other Jamat members and we tried everything to possible from here. Janab Amil Saheb also stayed awake and prayed a behori for the mumineen travelling to Karbala Moalla. Now we had to wait. With the Dua Mubarak of Aqa Moula (TUS) the authority in Iraq had opened the Baghdad airport for a few hours, all the mumineen were sent to Baghdad. Their scheduled wait in Dubai was for 15 hours and they had to only wait an extra 2 hours and they got their flight to Baghdad.

They reached the Faiz late in the night, but with the Dua Mubarak of Aqa Moula (TUS) they had made it to their destination safely. We remembered the Zikr of the Buriya and thought that Imam Husain (A.S) ni ziyarat waste takleef to uthawu pare.

The group returned as planned on the 19th of April, due to the najaf airport being closed, they returned from Basra.

We had sent 4 mumineen Aqa Moula (TUS) taraf si giving them DXB-NAJAF-DXB ticket, faiz lawazim, and visa charges. They only had to pay for the Cmb-Dxb-Cmb ticket.

The people involved in the organizing of this project are.
1. Mu. Moiz Asgerally
2. Mu. Aliasger Sh Abdeali
3. Mu. Mustafa Sh Mansoor manco
4. Sh Zohair Sh Hatim
5. Muffadal Sh Mukkaram
6. Mu. Huzaifa Sh abdeali
7. Mu Abbas Sh Fazlehussain
8. Mu Ilyas Mohammed Hussain.

Finally I would like to thank Janab Amil Saheb for all his help and support and would like to specially commend Mu Moiz Asgerally for being the group leader of such a huge group, and handling all affairs amazingly.

Wasalam

Glamorgan C.C Clinch 20-20 Trophy! Updated on: [Jun 23]

The ever consistent Glamorgans remained un-defeated through out the tournament as they just managed to beat Bohra Sports Club in a thrilling encounter.

Glamorgan won the toss and elected to bowl first. Opener Hussain Mansoor failed to get a start and was cleaned up in the 3rd over where as Hussain Mustansir fell in the 5th over after hitting a couple of boundaries. This brought on the dangerous duo of Shabbir Hazari & Murtaza Hassanally who got the innings moving at a rapid pace with Murtaza clobbering consecutive sixes off the 8th over before getting caught behind for 16. Shabbir Hazari played a slightly more sedate innings scoring 21 off 26 deliveries getting out a crucial stage in the 12th over.

Ali Asgar Abdeali then took over and top scored with 28 smashing 3 sixes and had a brisk partnership with Oneash Labrooy who also contributed with a run-a-ball 19. The runs continued flowing as Juzar Noordeen belted a quick fire 20 enabling the Bohra’s to reach a strong position of 140 runs in 18 overs, but as the wickets too kept tumbling, the critical last 2 overs only produced a mere 6 runs which proved costly.

The Glamorgan C.C once again had a dreadful start losing 2 early wickets in the first 2 overs but as the leading run scorer of the tournament, M.F Nazeem walked into the crease, the game began to slip away for BSC. Shabbir Hazari conceded 20 off his first 2 overs and Oneash Labrooy was even more costly giving away 26 in his first 2 overs. The Glamorgans reached a total off 60 in the first power play of 6 overs losing only 2 wickets.

Nazeem continued his brilliant form striking boundaries at important stages and ensured they were ahead of the required rate through out the match. It was his flawless innings of 54 off only 38 deliveries that led the Glamorgan C.C to their first ever 20-20 Championship! He was well supported by M. N Nazoor, (27 – 13 deliveries) & M. Rizvi (29 – 39 deliveries)

BOHRA’S STORM INTO 20-20 FINALS! Updated on: [Jun 19]

The Bohra Sports Club made an unbelievable fight back at Shalika grounds last Wednesday, (18th) to book a place in the finals of the Annual Quadruple 20-20 Cricket Tournament 2008. Hurting after two consecutive defeats in the opening round of the tournament, the Bohra’s not only needed a win against the hosts, Windsor S.C, but also needed to win by a huge margin in order to qualify, based on net run rate.

Winning a crucial toss, the Bohra’s captain did not hesitate in electing to bowl first as it was vital to know how much they would need to chase so that they could work with the required rate. The Windsor openers got off to a decent start putting on 28 in the first power play of 6 overs without losing a single wicket. They continued in the same fashion and reached a moderate total of 80 in 15 overs losing only 3 wickets, which the Bohra’s too would have been content with at the given time.

With the rains persisting in patches, it was a stop-start match through out the day but it was after the 15 over mark that the game began to slip away from the Bohra’s. The last 5 over slot conceded 61 runs with the 19th over giving away 17 runs by Juzar Noordeen. A brilliant run out by Shabbir Abbas sent the dangerous skipper of Windsor Sports Club, Zulki Hameed, back to the pavilion early, but that was not enough to prevent a required target of 141 for B.S.C, which was the highest total of the tournament so far!

It was a do-or-die situation as the Bohra’s needed to chase this daunting total in 15 overs to improve their net run-rate to stand a chance of going through to the finals. Hussain Mustansir re-instated as opener, once again was adjudged LBW which seemed a highly dubious decision as replays clearly showed the ball pitching well outside leg stump. Then finally, Hussain Mansoor, who had not yet made an impact in this tournament, started to fire on all cylinders scoring 28 off jus 18 balls with 4 boundaries and 1 huge six that sailed into Apollo Hospital.

His dismissal in the 5th over brought on the what was later believed to be the lethal combo of Shabbir (Doctor) Hazari and Murtaza (Austin) Hassanally. From the onset it was aggression and pure carnage as these two power hitters slammed the Windsor bowlers to every possible corner of the beautiful Shalika Grounds. Shabbir Hazari smashed 63 with 7 boundaries & 3 sixes, including one over extra cover, and Murtaza powered 42 not out with five boundaries and 2 monsterous Sixes, one which once again troubled Apollo Hospital furniture.

The target was achieved in unbelievably quick time as the match was wrapped up in only 15.1 overs with 8 wickets to spare. Celebration began in the Bohra’s  camp but only after some nervous moments while the net run rate of all 3 teams, apart from Glamorgan C.C, were being calculated. It was later announced that the Bohra’s would play the ever consistent Glamorgan’s, who are yet to lose a match, in the finals of the 20-20 Tournament.

The Malay grounds, Slave Island, will hold the finals on the 22nd of June 2008 where it is expected to be a thrilling finish to a well fought out tournament so far. Both teams will be geared up, and hopefully if the rains do stay away, the crowds will witness a great battle between two well deserving teams.

Summary:

Windsor S.C – 140 for 7 wickets in 20 overs.

20-20 Quadruple Cricket Tournament Updated on: [Jun 09]

The annual 20-20 Cricket Tournament kicked off yesterday with the Memon S.C playing Windsor S.C in the morning session and the Bohra Sports Club played Glamorgan C.C later in the day at Shalika grounds.

The defending champions Bohra S.C faltered in the latter stages of the game to give the Glamorgan S.C their first ever win over the Bohra’s in any form of the game. In a thrilling last over encounter, the game swung like a pendulum through out the evening with Glamorgan eventually scraping through.

The Bohra’s winning the toss did not hesitate in electing to take first lease of the slow Shalika pitch. With some aggressive fast bowling by the opening bowlers, the Bohra’s were pegged down in the first power play of 6 overs managing to score only 24 runs. They hoped to capitalize from then on as they fortunately had not loss a single wicket but as soon as a couple of boundaries begun to flow from the top scorer, Murtaza Hassanally’s bat, he was hauled out at deep mid wicket off a gentle off spinner.

As the wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, the Bohra’s were never able to kick-start their innings and gain any sort of momentum. The scoreline slumped from 53 for 1 in the first 10 overs to 57 for 4 by the end of the 12th. With a little bit of consolidation by Ali Asgar Abdeali and Onesh Labrooy, and a late flurry by Ryan Wijayaratne, the Bohras only managed a meager total of 101 in their allotted 20 overs.

1st Innings Summary:

Murtaza Hassanally     -           21

Ryan Wijayaratne       -           15

Hussain Mansoor        -           12

M. F Nazeem              -           4 overs – 2 for 17

M. Rizwan                  -           4 overs – 2 for 11

The B.S.C team got off to a magical start with both opening bowlers Shabbir Hazari and Onesh Labrooy bowling with immense aggression balanced with immaculate line and length, as the Glamorgan C.C collapsed to a humiliating 16 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their first power play of 6 overs.

Just as it seemed the match was in the bag for the Bohra’s, all of a sudden runs started leaking in the middle overs with 32 scored from the 8th to the 10th over. The pendulum had once again swung in the favour of the Glamorgan’s as they required only 31 off the last 7 overs with 4 wickets in hand. A late fight back with the ball from Shabbir Mohamedhussain was not enough, as Glamorgan C.C reached their target wit 4 balls to spare and 2 wickets in hand.

2nd Innings Summary:

M.F Nazeem               -           40

M. Rizwan                  -           28

M. Irfan                       -           21

Onesh Labrooy           -           4 overs – 3 for 15

Shabbir Hazari            -           4 overs – 2 for 20

Shabbir Mohamedhussain -     3 overs – 1 for 14

By the end of the first days play, both the favourites had conceded losses as the Memons too were defeated by the hosts Windsor S.C. Now the tournament moves to a do-or-die stage for the Bohra’s as they have to win both their remaining matches in order to qualify for the Finals.

CARNIVAL 1429 - 2008

This year the Carnival was held on the 10th and 11th of May, at the St.Albans place car park. This event is organized by Shababul Eidiz Zahabi in the Khushi of our Prophet Mohammed (SA) Meelad and Aqa Moula Syedna Mohammed Burahnuddin Sahebs 97th Meelad Mubark. This annual event is the most looked forward event by all Mumineen, Mumenaat and especially their children.

It was Mu Abbasbhai Sh Fazlehusain who came up to the challenge to head the organizing team for this years Carnival.

Months of preparation and nail biting negotiations had brought us finally to this day, a few days ago, this car park which was totally bare was now taking shape and looking more like the venue for this massive project.

The stall holders present from dawn decorating and preparing their stalls for the night, the Jolly go Merry go round and the Swan Ride almost assembled, the lights all installed just waiting for the generator to power them up, the excitement was building.

By 6pm the Carnival was all go, Janab Amil Saheb Nooruddin Bhai Saheb Zakiyuddin graced the opening ceremony at 7:30pm. Recital of The Quran Majeed, Madeh by Madrasa children and the opening speech given by the joint secretary Mu Huzaifabhai Sh Abdeali saw the ceremony begin. Janab Amil Saheb Declared the Carnival Open with the releasing of 97 Balloons held by small children to mark the 97th Meelad Mubarak of our beloved Aqa Moula Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb (TUS).

The first night saw a stage drama organized by Mu Taiyabi bhai and his team. The Drama was called “APPA PAPPA” and was enjoyed by young and old alike.

The stalls comprised of Trade, Food and Games.

Food Stalls were Hizbe Jamali, The Food Hut, Kaleemi Khidmat Guzar, Hizbul Fallah, Hizbe Zaini, Chaat Stall, Royal Foods.

Like every year the Horror House was a must see attraction.

On Sunday the stage was taken up by a Great Magician, whom the kids really enjoyed.

This act was follwed by a Fire Limbo show, dazzling the crowds by spitting fire and playing with flames.

The closing ceremony was hosted by Mu Huzaifabhai Sh Abdeali, prizes were given for best Trade Stall Which went to Burhani Marasiya Party, Best Food Stall went to Chaat Stall and the best Games Stall went to Game Spot.

Our aim is to always work towards obtaining the happiness of our beloved Aqa Moula (TUS), May Allah Ta’ala always give us the strength and enthusiasm to do Aqa Moulas’ Khidmat “Jaan ane Maal Si”

Garage Sale!! Updated on: [Apr 28]

The Garage Sale was held on 27th April 2008 at No. 14 Adams Avenue, Colombo 4. Sale was with the niyat of sending mumineen to Karbala Moalla.

The day started off with a flourish of people trying to get their hands on everything we had, it looked like we would be done much earlier than expected.

Most of our sales were made early morning, which was a result of good newspaper advertisements and continuous SMS’s sent to mumineen.

The heavens opened up in the afternoon, which gave us a well needed break for lunch and an opportunity to test out the awesome surround sound system we got as donation.

It was back to work when the rain seized and looking at the growing empty space around us gave us the sense of accomplishment and relief.

The Garage Sale was a success, the hard work of all the members had paid off.

The ground work for this project was started by early March, and the sale which was to be held on the first week of April was postponed as a result of members being busy and collections not made.

We had introduced a new concept for collecting items, this time each Mohalla was under the responsibility of certain shabab members, this had its pros & cons.

We had agreed to approach mumineen shops for one new item which they deal in, collection of this sort was not done as well as we expected.

With Moulas’ Dua Mubarak however the Sale was a Suceess but there are a lot of areas for improvement.

Things to be considered for next sale

  1. Choosing the location is very important. Location should be easily accessible and should have road frontage. This will increase the customers visiting the sale.
  2. Paper advertising is not enough, Banners should also be displayed.
  3. Items should not only be in working condition, but should be presentable and look good otherwise no one will buy them.
  4. Furniture items in good condition will sell fast, and most people are also looking for antiques.
  5. Small items that are new and look good sell like hot cakes.
  6. Mohallah wise distribution will only be a success if the person in charge is willing to give 100%. Or else it is better to have a team with one person answering all the calls and appointing people to make collections. It is easier to fix a day and collect all items in one go.
  7. Items should be collected fast as mumineen do not like to remove stuff and have it lying around the house for days.

A Note worthy of mention is that we had many Shabab Committee and ordinary members visiting us and helping us during the day of the Garage Sale. They all came without being called, and lifted our spirits by just coming there. Namely

Moiz Asgerally

Mustafa Sh Shabbir Manco

Nooruddin Sh Shabbir Skyray

Moiz Mu. Nuruddin

Salman Sh Habib

Moiz Sh Hatim

Hatim Sh Shabbir

Mohammed Sh Imran

Abbas Sh Fazle Hussain

Hussein Sh Huzaifa

Dawood Sh Mustafa

Hussain Sh Mansoor Manco

Mohammed Sh Kutbuddin

Muffadal Sh Yusuf Saldiwala

Hussain Sh Shabbir

Mu.Husainbhai Sh Zainuddin for giving us the location to carry out this project.

We would also like to thank Fatema Aunty Sh Habib Jafferjee for the constant care shown, the delicious sandwiches and tea with biscuits made our work seem like a picnic. Thank you.

At the end of the day when you sit down and think, you realize that when you are doing Aqa Moula’s (TUS) khidmat, it is Aqa Moula (TUS) who is helping you and with the Dua of Aqa Moula (TUS) everything turns out GREAT!

May Allah Ta’ala grant our beloved Aqa Moula (TUS) a long life till the day of qayamat. Ameen!

Sri Lanka Vs Surat Updated on: [Mar 26]

Ali Asgar finally lost a toss and for a change were asked to bowl first. with 3 consecutive defeats, it was an extreme pressure situation for the roaring lions in order to keep their hopes alive to qualify for the knock out stage!

The bowlers seemed to handle the pressure extremely well as they bowled with great accuracy and also some unexpected variation. The Surat batsman were never allowed to free their hands and found life difficult to hit any big scoring shots as Juzar N, Hussain Mustansir and Shabbir Hazari bowled brilliantly to restrict the opposition to a meagre total of only 49 runs.

Once again Ali asgar tried his luck at opening with in form Hussain Mansoor, and this time it paid high dividents, an innings both mixed with aggression and caution led the lankans to a highly convincing victory as they chased down the total in 5 overs witout the loss of a single wicket. Ali Asgar scored 26 and H Mansoor scored 22 off 16 deliveries which is rather slow for his standards.

As promised The roaring lions pulled up their socks and fought hard to get back onto the points table. Next match vs Mumbai who are so far the only undefetaed team in the tournament. Its going to be a tough encounter but promises to be a thriller.

Under Dogs Al Jamea Tus Saifiyah Topple the Lankan Lions Updated on: [Mar 26]

Captain Ali Asgar won the toss again to make it his 5th out of 6 matches and as the trend continues he chose to bat.
It was a disastrous start for the lankan lions as the leading run scorer for SL, H Mansoor was given a highly dubious decision for LBW on the very first ball as replays later clearly showed a big inside edge. 3 deliveries later, captain Ali Asgar who opened for the first time in place of regular opener Hussain Mustan, was caught at deep square leg after attempting an outrageous sweep shot which was highly unneccessary at the given time.

The collapse continued as S Hazari ran down the pitch to clobber the leg spinner in the beginning of the 2nd over and all he managed to do was cut unwanted grass of the pitch and was stumped by a mile. An over later Juzar N too followed suite and was bowled by nothing other than a straight delivery which knocked his middle stump out of the ground.

Then the Sri Lankans made a fight back with Hatim Akberali who scored 11 inspite of a knee injury and the juniors in the team Abdul Qadir Mustafa and Hatim Mohamed enabling the lankans to gain some respectabiltiy as they scrounged 44 off the allotted 6 overs.
It was an intense session as the jamea guys found no easy pickings from the SL bowlers but the score was just too little to defend on the day, and a little bit of sensibility was required to knock off the total which was achieved in the 6th over with 2 deliveries remaining.
It was a disaapointing match for the lankans as no one really expected the Jamea boys to pull off such a fantastic victory. The Lankan lions have promised they will come back and come back hard at that!

Next match vs Surat.
